Recap of InterHigh Monthly #2 – Chance vs Design

InterHigh2_GamesGlad you “tuned” in to this week’s recap of InterHigh Monthly 2! This past Saturday, we learned about how our universe is intricately fine-tuned, from some very smart science-minded individuals who earned (or is earning) their science and engineering Ph.Ds at Berkeley. InterHigh2_JohnInterhigh2_Tim
We were fortunate enough to have a little bit of their brain power rub off onto us, as we explored a few of the constants that make life possible here on Earth and the strong evidence for design in our universe. Did you know that if our earth was even 1% closer or further away from the sun, there would be no such thing as life as we know it? Scary thought. And yet our earth keeps on faithfully rotating and spinning, at a distance that allows for you and I to be here, and we don’t have to worry about freezing to death or getting baked to a crisp (unless you live in Antarctica or Death Valley). Chance? I think not.InterHigh2_Games2

InterHigh2_SistersAfter getting our brains recharged with some chili hot dogs, we had a zany time of playing the “Numbers” game. It was a class competition, from the 6th graders all the way on up to the seniors. I’m not going to even attempt to explain this game, but suffice it to say that everyone’s “count”-enance was beaming and radiant, as people did everything from jumping jacks to sing Silent Night (which was anything but silent) to eat hot-sauce-covered hot tamales, which was an “integral” part of the night that “multiplied” our joy with lots of “digit”-al photos to prove it! (Ok, I’ll stop with the puns…).InterHigh2_Games3

InterHigh_PraiseOf course, how could I forget the scintillating calorie-burning time of praise, with songs like “Sing Sing Sing” and “Promises”? I’m just so thankful for the praise band members, and the energy they always bring when they lead us in worship and helping us to focusing our thoughts on God, the great and awesome fine-tuner of the universe!

We then had the guys and girls split up into separate rooms, where we talked about “Biblical Manhood” and “More Than a Face” for the sisters.InterHigh2_MoreThanAFaceInterHigh2_MentorsSharing It was an engaging time for all of us, as we learned how the notion of what it means to be a man and women in today’s society has InterHigh2_BroMentorsbecome so warped by the media, that glorifies the outer appearance  and values people based purely on looks and talents, but having strayed so far away from the kind of men and women that God wants us to be. In a Larry King-style format, we had our very own InterHigh college mentors share honestly about how the gospel has transformed their views of what about it means to be a man or a woman, and some nuggets of wisdom that they shared with us about what they could do over if they could do high school all over again. We ended the night with a time of prayer in small groups, recommitting our lives to becoming people of character.

If you were there, what was your favorite part of the night and why? Are you finding the things you are learning here at InterHigh helpful in your own faith, and in sharing your faith with others? We would love to hear from you so please comment!

I LOVE INTERHIGH! I would like all the youth students to know how much the college students from Berkeley are excited for InterHigh Monthly! Between the InterHigh Monthly events, we love to talk about InterHigh, get trained for the apologetic classes, and pray for you guys! I am already so psyched about the InterHigh Monthly 3!!!! Who else is excited for the InterHigh Monthly 3?
