We drove 3 hours in small caravans from Northloop to Sierra Lodge, the time spent talking, playing games, enduring corny jokes and singing to music.

The Perfect Gift for the Tummy

Most of us arrived at sierra lodge around 6PM, unloaded our belongings and went straight to the upper lodge. There we were greeted by volunteers who had come simply to cook us a delicious warm meal at arrival. Thank you so much! It warmed our hearts and our tummies. Chicken never tasted so good.

We Want to Bond, Whatever it Takes

The atmosphere was great – lot of excitement and lot of giddy happiness just being away with friends at some far away location. After enjoying the incredible meal, we all gathered for some orientation and safety rules. Safety first! Soon there after, we were introduced to our teams and had an extended time to bond through some fun, interactive games. We had a chance to watch youths digging through whip cream face first – always a wonderful sight to see. Then each team put their heads together to create everything from team cheers and floating devices to paper planes and cardboard armor. Throughout the “Barn” we saw small clusters of youths working together on these mini-projects and gleaming with pride at their creations.

Casting a Vision

Soon we transformed the barn from a game field into a service room. Our first session focused on the need for us to look beyond ourselves and have a greater vision. It is so tragic to see the world so focused on themselves while neglecting the incredible needs of others. Today the youths were challenged to think about their own life, their own habits, and what they are investing or not investing in. Afterwards we had small group time, some around the great big fire in the brand new gazebo! It was a chance for us to get to know one another as well as talk about our own hopes and desires here at this retreat.

Afterwards, we all washed up and the youths went to bed.
